Mental Health: We Can't Escape It, So Let's Handle It
This course provides the student with the tools to understand what the various types of mental health are and how we, as peace officers can handle people with mental health issues safely and effectively. The student will explore the more common types of mental health, the symptoms, and the medications prescribed. Mental health issues will be explored that are caused or derived from intellectual disabilities, diseases, substance abuse, or environmental related sources. This course will address, children, teens, and adults as well as the homeless and veterans. Students will review current laws that are applicable to mental health and peace officers. The topics of societal views and tactical safety will be incorporated too.
